Frida, Frida Kahlo, Friday Quotes, Marty McConnell, poem

you take
a lover who looks at you
like maybe you are magic.

You’ve probably seen this quote around – Tumblr, Pinterest, the like.  It is often attributed to Frida Kahlo on these sites.  But NO!  It is a poem written by Marty McConnell titled Frida Kahlo to Marty McConnell. Well here is the poem in its entirety.  Follow the link and see what the author has to say.

Frida Kahlo to Marty McConnell
by Marty McConnell

leaving is not enough; you must
stay gone. train your heart
like a dog. change the locks
even on the house he’s never
visited. you lucky, lucky girl.
you have an apartment
just your size. a bathtub
full of tea. a heart the size
of Arizona, but not nearly
so arid. don’t wish away
your cracked past, your
crooked toes, your problems
are papier mache puppets
you made or bought because the vendor
at the market was so compelling you just
had to have them. you had to have him.
and you did. and now you pull down
the bridge between your houses.
you make him call before
he visits. you take a lover
for granted, you take
a lover who looks at you
like maybe you are magic. make
the first bottle you consume
in this place a relic. place it
on whatever altar you fashion
with a knife and five cranberries.
don’t lose too much weight.
stupid girls are always trying
to disappear as revenge. and you
are not stupid. you loved a man
with more hands than a parade
of beggars, and here you stand. heart
like a four-poster bed. heart like a canvas.
heart leaking something so strong
they can smell it in the street.

While researching bedroom designs and art walls, I decided to use sconces instead of bedside lamps.  These are my absolute favorites:

I also like these:

But I ended up buying these:

Eyeball Sconce

Eyeball Sconce

to go with my Art wall.  $19 was just too cheap to pass up.  I think they will look good with the white Ribba frames.

I leave for Dubai this weekend, so I am trying to get my bedroom in order before I leave.  Again, this is what it looked like when I moved in:

I painted the walls (almost) white, and made some white curtains.  I have an iron bed frame, and the West Elm Parsons Desk as a bedside table.

I have a big painting behind the bed now, but I am going to change it to a full wall Art Wall.  I bought these:

And I am going to DIY some paintings similar to these:

And put them all in white oversized Ribba frames.

What do you think?  Any suggestions??

I have been struggling with how to design my bedroom.   I thought I wanted an all-white room, but every time I look at designs, I come back to this:

I love the iron frame, the fur, and the art wall.

With this in mind, I started looking up other art walls in the bedroom.  Here are some of my favorites:

Or something like this:

I think I will go with something more simple, but we will see!

Friday Quotes, Quotes, West Wing

This is my favorite series of quotes – from my favorite TV show, The West Wing.

President Bartlet: Did you know that hardly any of the guys who landed on the moon are married to the same people they were married to before they went there?

Abbey: What?

Bartlet: I’m just saying, it could have been worse: I could have been an astronaut.

Abbey: You could not have been an astronaut.

Bartlet: I would have been a great astronaut.

Abbey: You’re afraid of heights, speed, fire, and small enclosed spaces.

Bartlet: Yeah, but I’d have overcome it to go to the moon.

Abbey: I know you would have.

WHAT DOES YOUR BIRTHDAY MEAN? | D E S I G N L O V E F E S T.

Just came across this and it is SO accurate.   Really amazing:

“Many show a distressing lack of concern for their own safety, and frequently suffer from pulled muscles, cuts and bruises, even broken bones.”

Maybe this explains my 2 broken wrists and broken foot this year…

Check yours out!
